Namib Desert Beetles

My initial research into biomimicry has been focused on the desert beetles' ability to collect water in extremely arid environments. The texture on the wings of the beetles consist of hydrophilic bumps and hydrophobic channels. The hydrophilic bumps attract water molecules from passing vapor, and when enough collects into a drop, the water finally falls into the hydrophobic channels which repel the water down to the beetle for consumption.

Fall Term 2011

This blog is dedicated to my thesis work as the culmination of my undergraduate work at the University of Oregon. The focuses of my studio are biomimicry and ecodistricts, which will allow me to explore the building program not only as an individual entity, but as a part of a larger system and community.
